The Dubai Metro Green Line will open on September 9, making the driverless rail system the world’s longest. The new line has 18 stations over 23 kilometres and covers some of the emirate’s busiest tourist segments along the Creek, crowded residential areas, business districts and ministry offices. Transport officials anticipate the number of passengers will double to 270,000 a day. The launch is part of the Roads and Transport Authority’s strategic plan to improve infrastructure, integrate roads and transit systems, boost use of public transport and ensure smooth mobility, said Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of the board and the RTA’s executive director. The Green Line will open exactly two years to the day after the launch of the Red Line. Fifty trains will operate on both lines at peak times and 28 off-peak, at a frequency of six to eight minutes.

The RATP Group will participate in the 59 th conference of the International Association of Public Transport, to be held from the 10 th till the 14 th of April in Dubai. The RATP group will also highlight its international experience, operating a major network worldwide via RATP Dev, such as the tram of Florence, commissioned in 2010, or the Gautrain, regional train of which a first section was commissioned in 2010, linking up Johannesburg to Pretoria starting in the summer of 2011. This conference will provide an opportunity for the RATP Group to discuss new practices, new services and the latest technological innovations capable of improving the daily trip of the passengers on the networks operated by the Group. In addition, this meeting constitutes a chance for RATP Dev, the subsidiary company for operation and maintenance of the RATP, to strengthen its relations with the Gulf authorities where many transport projects will be carried out in the coming years. From Saudi Arabia to the Arab United Emirates, passing by Qatar who, in preparation for the 2022 Football World Cup, must build a complete infrastructure of transportation in a decade, important investments are expected in projects of multimodal transport networks including regional trains, metros, trams and buses. Already present in the Gulf region, through a strategic partnership with the company Saptco for operating and maintaining new tram and metro networks in Saudi Arabia, and also soon through the future operation services contract of the tram line Al Sufouh in Dubai, RATP Dev intends to continue its development in the region. During a recent Gulf visit, RATP Chairman and Chief Executive Pierre Mongin signed an agreement with His Excellency Mattar Al-Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads & Transport Authority, concerning the special partnership relation that the two companies have decided to confirm in order to develop operations in the United Arab Emirates.   The partnership is intended to develop integrated transport networks (bus, tram and metro services) with high quality service in the United Arab Emirates. The Gulf is a strategic region with many transport projects scheduled for the years to come. RATP Group will support growth through its subsidiary Ratp Dev. Ratp Dev already operates in a dozen countries on four continents, providing clear proof of its ability to adapt to every situation and to all cultures. To give just one example, in June 2010 Ratp Dev inaugurated the Gautrain in South Africa, the most modern and fastest train in Africa operated and maintained by Ratp Dev.   RTA sets a high standard in the Gulf with the world’s longest automatic metro line, an extensive bus network and a future tramline.
