French companies at the heart of the minerals industry

Pauline Marie - 07-mai-2013 22:35:09
Canada is one of the most attractive countries in the mining sector: 19% of mining global investments come from Canada, followed by Australia (14%) and the United States (7%). Canadian minerals and metals account for 18% of the country’s total exports. Withholding 16% of the international market, the country ranks first on expenditures destined to mineral explorations. In addition to being a major gold, silver, copper and lead producer, Canada is one of the top five global producers for 12 minerals and metals. Toronto is a central area for mining events, especially as the Toronto stock exchange is the world’s leading source of funding for mining accounting for 31% of the global mining financing, which represents 45 billion USD. Therefore the PDAC convention - Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada - took place from the 3rd to the 6th of March 2013, at the Convention Centre in Toronto. For its 81th edition, this event hosted 668 stands and a forum for investors of 613 stands. An average of 30 150 visitors attended this major event of the quarry industry. 126 countries were represented (including the United States, Australia, Peru, Mexico, England, China, Brazil, Chili, Argentina, South Africa and Turkey) as well as 60 provincial, federal and international governments. At the same time, more than 500 speeches were held: 22 technical sessions, 15 workshops and 26 rooms presented 116 Forums for Investors and 23 Innovation conferences organized by Camese. Thanks to Ubifrance, 7 French companies and 3 training institutes were represented on the French Pavillon. Therefore, Technip, Arcure, Géovariances, Technidrill, BRGM, Manitou, IRIS Instruments as well as the training institutes ENAG, l’Université de Lorraine et l’Institut Polytechnique Lasalle Beauvais, were able to establish many contacts with companies in preparation of business developments.
