UBIFRANCE, the French export-support agency, will present 20 companies at CeBIT, where they will showcase their innovative digital products on the French pavilion. The trade show is the digital industry’s biggest event and will take place in Hanover (Germany), from 6 to 10 March 2012.
UBIFRANCE will group together the French companies in two areas during the CeBIT trade show in March. Companies focused on new technology and research will be in Hall 9, and hardware specialists will be in Hall 14.
A wide range of products will be exhibited, including those relating to business IT, business communications and networks, ICT infrastructure, IT and telecoms accessories, Future Internet, and 3D technologies. This year, CeBIT takes place in Hanover (in northern Germany) from 6 to 10 March.
According to the European Information Technology Observatory (EITO), worldwide IT expenditure is experiencing substantial growth rates in emerging countries and should have risen by 4.3% in 2011, reaching €963.4 billion. In Europe, Germany stands out, as it exceeded the European average and experienced a significant increase in expenditure, up by 4.3% in 2011, while France enjoyed a 3.4% increase.
The EITO highlights the substantial upsurge — by 4.2% — in the French infrastructure software segment in 2011. This trend is expected to continue in 2012, with a forecasted 4.8% rise. The growth in this segment is primarily the result of rising sales in storage-and-security applications, boosted by the proliferation of Cloud Computing offers.
Also according to the EITO, the worldwide IT market in 2012 will grow by 5.4%, exceeding €1,000 billion in sales for the first time.

For the sixth year running, UBIFRANCE, the French export-support agency, will be running a French Pavilion at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona (Spain). The trade show, which takes place from 27 February to 1 March 2012, is the world’s foremost event for the mobile-telecoms industry, covering equipment, services and content. The French Pavilion will host almost 130 companies, representing the largest national pavilion at the event.
Made up of two islands (2F49 and 2E47) in Hall 2, the French Pavilion will stretch across 521m². It will display a huge range of products and services involved in the mobile-telecommunications industry, including mobile applications, mobile commerce (m-commerce), games published for smartphones, microchips, middleware, content, wireless telecoms networks, and tablets.
According to a study co-written in 2011 by GSMA, organisers of MWC, and AT KEARNEY, a global management-consultancy firm, the European mobile-telephone market is currently a key industry of a size equivalent to that of aerospace. The mobile-telecoms market boasts overall revenues that were estimated at €174 billion in 2010.
Market growth is primarily driven by the smartphone segment, which rose by close to 50% in 2011 on the previous year. The mobile-telephone penetration rate in Europe stands at 128% (against 100% in Japan and 104% in the United States). There are 656 million active SIM cards in use by 456 million Europeans, which represents 89% of the overall European population.
Five French regional authorities (Brittany, Ile-de-France, Languedoc-Roussillon, Midi-Pyrénées and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur), as well as hi-tech clusters of excellence such as SYSTEMATIC (for Paris and its region) and Solutions Communicantes Sécurisées (based in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur), have j oined UBIFRANCE in promoting France’s mobile-telecoms industry at MWC 2012. This partnership will facilitate co-operation among industry players, by bringing together a large number of businesses from each organisation’s respective industry field.
The region of Burgundy and groups such as Silicon Sentier and the Mobile Marketing Association France, organisers of the Mobile Monday France programme, are also associated with the Pavilion. They will be promoting innovative companies that specialise in novel digital technologies.
For the first time at MWC, representatives from UBIFRANCE offices established in Canada, Israel, Italy, Singapore, South Korea and Spain will organise business meetings between industry players from their respective countries and French-based exhibitors.
Additionally, the trade show will be interspersed by a series of events organised on the French Pavilion, including several product and services demonstrations, as well as networking cocktail parties, such as the annual France Cocktail .
The programme of events and the full listing of French exhibitors on the French Pavilion can be seen at: http://mwc.ubifrance-events.com

Axiatel has released the new features of its Fax to Email online service, which meet the professional and business requirements of SMEs. With no set-up costs and attractive packages on offer, Axiatel’s customized, VoIP-based solution makes faxing easier, greener and cheaper than ever, without the need for a fixed line or fax machine to be installed.
Sending and receiving faxes has never been as quick and as simple as sending an email. Axiatel’s Fax to Email service offers distinct advantages such as simplicity of use, low cost, high speed, security and mobility, which are ideal for SMEs and professional users working from home.
As the name ‘Fax to Email’ suggests, the service offered by Axiatel makes it possible to receive unlimited faxes into, and send simultaneously faxes out of, an email account. The service is available from any device with internet access, be it a mobile telephone (smart phone), a laptop or a PC, and hence from any location in the world.
As this service no longer requires the use of an analogue fax machine (the purchase of ink cartridges becoming expensive over time), the renting of a telephone line (which can easily cost a basic minimum of £200 per year before call charges), or the printing of large quantities of paper, Fax to Email represents a new and cost-effective solution for those businesses and professions that rely heavily on faxing: online faxing saves time, saves money, and creates new opportunities for remote and mobile working. In other words, faxing becomes a dematerialized and trouble-free process that can be taken care of in a flexible way and while on the move.
Axiatel stands out thanks to its competitively priced monthly and annual packages. Its popular ‘Value’ package (at £7.50 per month or £68 per year) includes the unlimited, free reception of faxes, and up to 100 outgoing faxes per month, which can be sent out locally and to 61 country destinations as part of the package. (Other destinations incur an extra charge.)
There is no need to download or to buy any software to deploy Axiatel’s solution. Anyone can get a fax number in 10 minutes and start faxing straight away. To help users experience the benefits and simplicity of use of Fax to Email, Axiatel makes it possible for clients to test its service, during the first 30 days, at no charge. Axiatel can cater for heavy users as well as occasional ones: the company offers customized packages – allowing for up to 40,000 faxes to be sent per month – to customers requiring such scale.
Axiatel’s Fax to Email Service was designed with advanced settings, allowing users to configure it according to their needs. The features include delivery notification, an additional five recipients per fax, a password-protected interface with a fax-storage facility (free storage for up to a year), and an address book integrated into the interface. All these features improve the user experience, bringing fax transmissions into the 21st century as never before.
Now, with Axiatel’s service, it is possible to postpone the fax send, to choose the desired resolution for the faxed documents, and to enhance the presentation of faxes through a choice of different styles of cover pages (with the automatic inclusion of the company logo and other information).
Receiving unwanted fax messages is another issue most companies are familiar with: Axiatel has added a spam-filtering functionality to its service, whereby it is possible to filter junk faxes out and blacklist spammers.
Fax to Email also allows businesses to reduce their environmental impact and enhance their green policies. Not having to actually use a fax machine (which needs to be switched on all the time) and avoiding the need to print every faxed document greatly cuts energy consumption, while saving paper (and sparing trees!).
Axiatel has put its own environmental policy into place, whereby the company contributes £1 to green projects and policies for every new client who subscribes to its Fax to Email service.

Following the success of the first-ever entirely voice-driven GPS navigators, developed by Kapsys of France, the company is releasing a smartphone-based navigation solution specifically intended for the visually impaired. Through this application, Kapsys intends to strengthen its leading position in the voice-driven navigation market. Kapsys will present Kapten for Smartphone and Kapten Mobility Suite at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), in Barcelona (Spain), in mid-February 2011.
Aram Hékimian, the chairman and founder of Kapsys, says, in relation to the release of Kapten for Smartphone and Kapten Mobility Suite: “Kapten for Smartphone marks a new step in the growth of Kapsys. Through this navigation application with high added value for people suffering visual impairment, Kapsys will consolidate its leadership on the mobility aids market based on fully voice-activated navigation. Now available on GPS smartphones, Kapten technology, which is supplied as an application, should help a large number of people improve their day-to-day mobility, using a solution that fits in their pocket.”
On the strength of the success experienced by Kapten and Kapten Plus — the first-ever entirely voice-driven GPS navigators — Kapsys is now releasing Kapten for Smartphone and Kapten Mobility Suite, which will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress trade show (MWC), in Barcelona (Spain), to be held between 14 and 17 February 2011.
In order to guarantee accessibility, Kapsys has embedded the latest in voice-recognition and speech-synthesis technologies into its application, making it possible for users to control the application exclusively by vocal commands. The aim, here, is to achieve total and user-friendly access for visually impaired users.
Kapten for Smartphone is the first-ever comprehensive mobility support solution, available on GPS-equipped smartphones. It provides valuable assistance to people who have a visual impairment, helping them to get their bearings and to travel more easily.
Fully embedded and thus bypassing paid-networks access, the application features integrated localisation and voice-driven navigation services for pedestrians, which can be accessed at any time.
Kapten for Smartphone includes a range of functionalities that are easy to set up, and fully adapted to the user’s daily travel requirements. Firstly, a smart voice-driven navigation tool is on offer (pedestrian navigation, with or without public transport, road-book function, etc.). Secondly, Kapten for Smartphone comes with the ‘free navigation’ option, which helps users get a real-time description of what is around them. Thirdly, a city-map discovery mode is available.
Kapten for Smartphone also includes a premium points-of-interest database, containing thousands of pre-recorded addresses such as chemists’, police stations, hospitals, restaurants, and so on.
Kapten Mobility Suite contains the full range of Kapten for Smartphone applications, together with a digital book reader supporting the DAISY standard. The digital book comes complete with a screen-reader application that gives a full vocal description of the user interface.
Kapten Mobility Suite thus enables telecommunications operators to provide packaged solutions intended for the visually impaired and the blind, which are tailored to their needs. The Kapsys solution is both highly featured (as a mobile phone incorporating an integrated navigation solution) and fully accessible to the visually impaired (thanks to its speech-synthesis and voice-recognition capabilities).
Kapten for Smartphone and Kapten Mobility Suite will be released under Windows Mobile from the second quarter of 2011; from the fourth quarter of 2011, both tools will also be available in an Android version.
About Kapsys
Kapsys is a high-technology company based in Mougins, in the Sophia Antipolis science park and enterprise zone, which is located outside Nice (in south-eastern France).
Kapsys will unveil its innovative, flagship solutions — Kapten for Smartphone and Kapten Mobility Suite — at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The trade show takes place from 14 to 17 February 2011 in Barcelona (Spain).
In 2011, Kapsys will also take part in CSUN, in San Diego (USA), from 15 to 19 March, and in Sight City, in Frankfurt (Germany), from 4 to 6 May.
